Meet the koholā off the leeward coast
Each winter, thousands of Pacific humpback whales migrate to Hawaiʻi's warm, shallow water to breed, calve, and nurse — and Oʻahu's leeward coast is one of the best places to see them. This seasonal afternoon tour runs from mid-December until March 30th, departing Waiʻanae Boat Harbor at 2:30 PM aboard our fast, comfortable boat.
We stand off at a respectful, legal distance and let the whales behave naturally — blows, breaches, tail-slaps, mother-and-calf pairs, and competition pods. A naturalist is aboard the whole trip to read the ocean and explain the behavior you are watching, and when conditions allow we add a snorkel stop over reef with green sea turtles and reef fish.

- 2:30 PMHead out for the humpbacksCruise the calm leeward coast while your naturalist watches for the blows, breaches, and tail-slaps of migrating humpback whales.
- 3:15 PMTime with the whalesStand off at a respectful, legal distance and watch the whales behave naturally — mothers and calves, competition pods, and the occasional full breach.
- 4:15 PMSnorkel stop (conditions permitting)When the ocean cooperates we anchor over reef to snorkel with green sea turtles and reef fish.
- 5:30 PMReturn to harborCruise back to Waiʻanae as the afternoon light goes gold.
